Sometimes, an event’s location is fixed because of numbers or logistics. Most of my interpreting assignments take place in windowless, airless rooms under artificial light.
I interpreted at a meeting recently and, to my delight, it was in a room with huge windows overlooking the city.
The view was magnificent. The change to participants was similarly stunning.
Everyone was brighter. There were frequent comments on the difference the light made to their mood.
It’s not always possible to host events in rooms with views, but a tip for event organisers is to locate breaks in these areas for maximum mood lifting.
